On Monday afternoon, B and I finished up the work on the wall. We ended up bringing it all the way up to the front door, so that the it made a transition from wall to garden border as you go up the sidewalk. We also discovered that there was a tunnel under the sidewalk (either formed by root, water or critter) that had to be filled in -- good thing we had lots of dirt around! We're really happy with the final result, and I'm really proud of all the work B did on this. Now we just need to clean up a bit and get the last of the dirt moved and the mulch spread.

Work continued on the retaining wall. B did most of the skilled labor -- I mainly shoveled dirt to fill in behind the wall and helped with laying extra layers on top of the ones that she got started. This has been her project from the start, and other than that, I don't feel like I know what I'm doing. It's turned out to be a bit bigger than we had planned (but that's a good thing). We decided to extend the wall along the sidewalk on up to the house, letting it double as a border for the planting bed.
